Sell your general, specialty or group dental practice.
A dental CPA told ADA News in December 2024 that you can sell to an associate, an outside dentist or a DSO; specialists can also partner with specialty platforms. A free, confidential valuation estimates what your practice could sell for.
What you send is not shared with a DSO or another dentist without your permission, and asking for a valuation does not list your practice for sale.
What happens when you ask for a valuation
Tell us about the practice
Revenue range, state, number of dentists and locations, and how to reach you. It takes about two minutes and stays confidential.
A conversation, not a questionnaire
Someone from the team follows up to understand what a form cannot: your payer mix, who produces the dentistry, your lease and your equipment.
Your valuation
A value range based on your numbers and published sale data for dental practices, and what could move it up or down.
Your decision
There is no obligation. If you decide to sell, the sale runs through Wraith Brokerage, LLC, confidentially, on your timeline.
What do buyers look for in a dental practice?
Buyers can pay more for a practice whose revenue keeps coming in after you step back from the chair. The dental practice due diligence checklist lists the records behind each point.
- Profit and the collections trend
- ADA guidance tells buyers to ask for five years of production and collections by doctor and by hygienist, and to flag receivables above two months of production. Profit, not collections alone, drives value: in a 2021 hypothetical from Henry Schein Dental Practice Transitions, two practices collect the same amount and the one with lower overhead is worth significantly more.
- Hygiene and production that does not depend on you
- FOCUS Investment Banking, a sell-side advisor, says in a 2026 whitepaper that DSO and private equity buyers treat hygiene revenue as the most recurring, stable part of a practice's earnings. A practice that relies on one dentist can be worth less to another dentist, a May 2026 Cain Watters post notes, and FOCUS says DSO buyers may discount it. Selling to an associate or another dentist
- Payer mix and insurance contracts
- FOCUS says DSO and private equity buyers value a balanced commercial and PPO mix most. Henry Schein Dental Practice Transitions reports that a full or partial sale has moved a practice's dentists from Delta Dental's Premier fee schedule to the lower PPO schedule. Check your Premier patient share and ask your own Delta Dental company before you sell. What a DSO offer is made of
- Equipment, the lease and clean books
- FOCUS counts digital radiography and intraoral scanning among the quality factors DSO and private equity buyers weigh. A good, transferable office lease is critical to value, dental CPA Ken Rubin wrote in Dental Economics in 2016. If the buyer uses an SBA 7(a) loan, the lender checks your reported numbers against your IRS tax transcripts (SBA SOP 50 10 8.1, effective October 1, 2026).
The SBA rule above is general information, not legal or tax advice. Confirm how it applies to your sale with counsel or a CPA.
How is a dental practice valued?
BizBuySell measures dental practice sales against seller's discretionary earnings (SDE), which includes the owner-dentist's own pay. FOCUS Investment Banking's 2026 whitepaper quotes DSO and private equity deals as multiples of EBITDA. Percent of collections is a commonly cited rule of thumb, but only an extremely rough starting point, dental CPA Ken Rubin wrote in Dental Economics in 2016. What yours is worth depends on profit after overhead and on the points above.
